The Miami Dolphins relied on Cleo Lemon to drive the team during the 1-15 season when Trent Green went down. Playing a little here and there with John Beck. After that season, Beck hung on to his 3rd QB roll, inactive all year, carrying a clipboard. Trent Green tried one more season as a back-up and Cleo Lemon left the Dolphins for a greener and more lucrative free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
One year later and Cleo Lemon is looking for a new job. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who signed Lemon to a rather large 3 year contract, has parted ways. Different jersey, same Lemon. The Jaguars stated that Lemon couldn’t pick up their offense.
With that season becoming a distant memory every passing day, the 3 QB’s that combined for 1 victory (Lemon’s), are all but out of the NFL. Trent Green officially retired last week. Lemon is free to sign elsewhere, and John Beck is comfortably holding Cam Cameron’s clipboard in Baltimore.
It’s amazing what a quarterback can do. As I sat here and was about to end this “Lemony Snippet” I realized that a quick look back over the last 10 years is amazing. Jay Fiedler was a warrior but never a gem. What if the Dolphins had looked for a QB instead of relying on Fiedler for so long? Of course, we will never know. It does however make you smile to realize that this front office “gets it”.
