The Miami Dolphins lost a commanding lead in the 2nd half of Sunday’s game and in that same half they lost starting CB Will Allen for the season with a torn ACL. The injury means that the Dolphins will utilize two first year corners. The future that the team was planning for is happening now.
The Dolphins drafted Chad Henne last year as the heir apparent to the Dolphins offense. An injury this year to starter Chad Pennington put the team on Henne’s shoulders a bit earlier than the team wanted. Now, with the Allen injury, Vontae’ Davis and Sean Smith will have to show that they are ready to start playing on opposite sides of the field instead swapping in and out.
For their part, both rookies have played well this season and have gotten better as the weeks roll on. Still, it’s a blow to the Dolphins secondary no matter how you look at it. The Phins will likely add a CB from the free agent market but the pickings are a little thin and the trade deadline has passed.
