Jason Taylor Has Great Quote, Ginn Has Great Game…But…

AUTHOR: Brian Miller | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 18 Comments |

Rarely do you hear a quote that really makes you laugh, smile, and really want a response from, but this post-game comment by Miami Dolphins DE Jason Taylor is one of those quotes. Taylor was heard yelling this as he passed the NY Jets locker room after the game.

“It’s like a damn graveyard around here,” he yelled. “Talk about that for two weeks.”

Taylor, in reference to the Jets running off with their mouths all last week and the week before, and the week before that, and the week before that…oh hell you get the idea. With the Jets on a bye week next weekend, there should be plenty of jawing about how they lead in yardage and how bad it “stinks” and blah, blah, blah…or better yet…boo, hoo, hoo. To steal a line from Rex Ryan.

As Monday settles down into the realization that next week the Phins travel further north to New England it should be noted that the Dolphins will put yesterdays’ big win behind them, so should you over Ted Ginn’s big day.

Don’t get all worked up and buy into the kool-aid being served up in the media. Ted Ginn isn’t back for two reasons. One, he was never here and two, one game hardly makes him something special. Ted Ginn had a very good game. On ST’s he had a great game. But Ted Ginn is listed as WR and Ted Ginn the WR still sucks. I won’t take anything away from him for his performance but Ginn is still way too inconsistent to make an impact on this team outside of ST’s. And let’s not forget, yesterday was more a fluke in his favor than something we should expect going forward. Before yesterday do you remember the last time he made it past the 20? Exactly.

Sorry to our staff writer Patrik Nohe, but the “cat” is most definitely not out of the bag. Teams are not going to be anymore aware of Ted Ginn returning kicks than they were last week. He isn’t a special weapon, he isn’t even special. New England will not sweat over Ginn back deep next week and the Tampa Bay Buc’s won’t the following week. One good hit on Ginn and he will be running for the sidelines. Sad but more often than not true.

Great game Ted…seriously.

Make sure you check back later this week to hear about the stellar performances of the Dolphins trio of rookie defensive secondary starters this week. Vontae’ Davis, Sean Smith, and Chris Clemons!

Oh, and before any of you tee off on me for being negative remember, I said he had a great game, I just don’t think the hype surrounding him is warranted. String another 8 games together and then we will talk.

  2. Dolphin39 says:

Agree 100%.Ginn reminds me of Reggie Bush.Ginn the WR,Reggie the supposed to be the top notch running back. Then punt/kick off returner. Now he’s lucky if he can run forward or hold on to the ball..One or two plays in 7 games doesn’t make a man an NFL standout.Consistancy is what makes a player..Those two are Not!!!

  3. hawk9810 says:

First of all Great Job Ted!!  We have been waiting for this.  Now Ted, like Brian and Dolphin 39 said this by no means makes you a star in this league.  You still have a long way to go!!  Here’s to hoping you can still live up to your expectations..   GO PHINS!!   Hey Bart and Coach Fat ASS know your roles and shut your holes!!!!!!!

  4. Patrik Nohe says:

I disagree with you though on one point, Brian. Regardless of Ginn’s long-term success, the Patriots are going to look at the game-tape from this week and see the Dolphins won on the return game. I doubt very much you see another return team sleep on Ginn like the Jets did yesterday. I never said he was elite, I said he played like he was elite for a game and there’s no way that the next few teams on Miami’s schedule aren’t going to be aware of the fact Miami just got bailed out of a 100 yard offensive day by return touchdowns. Regardless, you knew as soon as Kerry Rhodes wandered by during pre-game and JT got angry (which is rare) that Rhodes had made a mistake and JT was going to show up to play.

  5. Finfan23 says:

Come on. Stop being so negative. Enjoy the win. Gee whiz. Ginn was great and won the game for us. If u remember when he first came to the league he ran back many for TDs. Why he wasn’t allowed forba while who knows but he has years of breaking them. The first td not one single block was used. He ram right past everyone including those in Front of him. Give him credit. Remember Duper was a track star and took four years to become good. Of course the patsies and bucs will be worries and spending more time on defending against him. I’m disappointed u r ragging on him

  6. Ginn still has a long way to go to prove he is not a complete and total bust…but….Brian your dislike for Ginn has tainted your article imo.  Yes Ginn is listed as a WR and he is NOT a good WR but guess what…if he can be a threat as a returner then we take what we can.   Ginn returned 2 kicks back to back in 1 quarter.  That is not just a fluke.  His main asset, and maybe only asset, his speed is what makes him dangerous as a returner and occasionally as a WR I guess.

Ginn returned several in his Rookie season (of course we know only 1 counted) and he also returned one last preseason I believe.  Say what you want about him being a pussy and heading for the sideline (I don’t necessarily disagree with you there) but give the guy his due as a returner.  I know one game doesn’t absolve him from his pitiful play thus far…but it is a start.

You can say he contributed to our losses against the Colts and Saints as he was a big part of the reason we lost…however he pretty much single handedly won the jets game for us yesterday.  Again, he has a long way to go as consistancy is what makes a good player, but take it for what it is and enjoy it.  He won a game for us at least.  Certainly better than anything Fasano has done this year! :)

  7. Oh, and Brian your first comment about not teeing off on you because you said Ginn had a good game.  Come on man, you crucified him in your article and then at the end said seriously good game Ted!!!   That sounded about as sincere as Bart Scotts comments yesterday.  :)

  8. Brian Miller says:

So many comments.  I knew this was coming (my email was worse…LOL).

Patrik – no sorry, the Patriots are not going to put in any, as in not one ounce of extra work this week to stop Ted Ginn on ST’s.  If Ginn toasts the Patriots on KR, then maybe the Buc’s do.  Ginn rarely has reached beyond the 40…don’t confuse poor coverage by the Jets as something that other teams are going to take note of.  Do you think that all these time Miami has given up KR or PR’s to some guy out of nowhere that opposing teams suddenly said, “Oh no, we have to stop him now”?  Nope.

  9. idahomer says:

Brian, Good thing the Dolphins haven’t listened to your calls to cut him, trade him, deactivate him, yada yada yada, or we’d have lost the game yesterday and instead of reminding everyone that Ginns performance was a fluke and he still sucks you could be writing about how bad the coaching was, and how Rex and company backed up all their talk.. Sad that you can’t give the kid his due after single handedly winning a huge game against the hated Jets and maybe, just maybe keeping our season alive. I agree with Mike, your dislike for Ginn tainted this article. I don’t care what position Ginn plays or where he was drafted – TED GINN JR beat the Jets for us yesterday on a day our offense could barely get a first down. End of story.

  10. Brian Miller says:

Mike:  I have never wavered on my stand concerning Ted Ginn.  Not once.  My biased against him aside, I do not think that my article was tainted one bit because of it.  Did he have a good or even a great game yesterday?  Absolutely.  Does he deserve a pat on the back?  Absolutely.  Does he deserve any time of reprieve for the dropped passes at NO, the dropped TD against Indy, or the more consistent Ted Ginn who contributes nothing to the team on a weekly basis?  Absolutely not.

So Ted Ginn got hurt deep down inside for being benched this week.  If the Phins start him against NE then they are fools.  Ted Ginn is more than capable of practicing well but he can’t and hasn’t translated that onto the field.

Sorry Mike, but Ted Ginn had ONE good game in 3 years.  This hype surrounding his game by the local media is a joke.

Funny how you and quite a few others finally gave up on Ginn earlier this year and now want to defend criticism against him because he had one good game.

No Mike, I don’t have a clouded judgement on Ginn because I don’t like him…I just haven’t seen anything from him to indicate that he is worth anything to this team…yesterday included.

I’m not eating crow or anything else until he produces more than a free agent pick up…oh wait…he has produced more than Ernest Wilford…I stand corrected.

  11. Brian Miller says:

FinFan23:  First of all, I’m not being negative…Im being realistic and it seems I am on a very very short list of people who are.  Nothing remotely personal in my opinion of Ginn as a person…but as a player…one game doesn’t change that.  Hell Eddie Moore once made a tackle…which he was paid for.  So did Jamar Fletcher who actually made an INT.  Does that make them any good?  Of course not.  What about Cleo Lemon who led the team to their only victory 3 years ago…is he a good player or even a mediocre one because he threw the winning TD?  It’s the same thing here.

Ginn did have a good game.  I also find it funny that you and more than a few others are saying stuff on the line of “why did they ever take him off KR duty”.  Maybe it’s because that despite his KR’s under Cameron, he has rarely ….and I do mean RARELY…taken the ball out past the 20.  Continually runs for the sidelines, and avoids hits.  So now he should have been back there all the time?  As one media reporter asked, “Why is he not returning punts as well?”  SERIOUSLY?  O.k give him a shot now but SERIOUSLY?  Because he couldn’t.

  12. Brian Miller says:

O.k. Idahomer, Finsfan23, and almost all of everyone else.  You can crucify me on this if you want to but when you take the glasses off you may see this for what it is.  Ted Ginn did not WIN the game for us yesterday.  Ted Ginn contributed to the win yesterday.  The game was a 6-3 lead for the Jets when he returned his first one.  It was 17 to 13 (I may be off by 2 points here…;) ) when he returned number 2…Jason Taylor also scored in between.

Do any of you honestly believe that had the Dolphins, excuse me, Ted Ginn because apparently no one blocked for him on his TD’s, not scored on those 2 returns that the game would not have played out differently?

If the Jets are not losing 17 to 6 (after the JT fumble) they are not pressed into a passing game that moves straight down the field and the Dolphins are not playing a cushion defense like they did when they gave up the scores.  The entire game is changed because of the lead the Phins took.  Which is a good thing.  And it’s good that Ted Ginn ran those back to score since our offense was doing squat.  But saying that we would have lost without them is ridiculous because there is no way of knowing.

As for writing an article about the Jets backing up their talk…I don’t have to…Patrik already did, in fact he posted it shortly after I posted my post-game article.  I wrote the Ted Ginn article much much later while I was at work last night after reading heaps of spewed garbage about the rebirth of Ted Ginn.  That’s what irritates me is how quickly fans who all year have been saying that Ted Ginn should be cut, traded, or yada yada yada…and Idahomer…Mike has said as much too.  Then all of a sudden he catches a long ball against the Jets and he is back…only to fail miserably after that…now, he returns a couple of TD’s and he suddenly has so much value to this team.

Sorry, my article is DEAD SPOT ON.  It’s realistic, it’s not judgemental, not clouded by any personal animosity or personal dislike, or anything else.  WHAT IT IS…is simply something that many of you simply don’t want to hear and/or be reminded of.

I wasn’t calling for Cleo Lemon, John Beck, Dante Culpepper, Jamar Fletcher, Eddie Moore…OR EVEN DAVE WANNSTEDT, when they did something right.  Ted Ginn finally did something right.  Kudos, props, pat on the back.

  13. N Patel says:

I like Miller’s thinking.  Ginn is still in the dog house until he can prove that he can run routes and catch the ball.  The Dolphins may have won but I think our offensive gameplan stunk.  I am getting really tired of the offense not showing up to play.  Our D keeps us in games but they slip alot on pass plays.  Braylon Edwards should not have had that touchdown.  We got to be realistic and not Jets fans realistic.  Bill Parcells said it best when he said your record reflects what type of team you are.  We are a 3-4 team until we prove otherwise.  Just like the Jets are a 4-4 team until they prove otherwise.  Good thing is that there time for improvement and Sparano knows how to improve.

  14. Brian, I know you have not wavered one bit on your opinion of Ginn.  That is probably why your article came of as negative rather than positive.  The point of my comment really was like some others here in that why not just enjoy what is and savor the moment of sweeping the Jets.

Trust me, I believe you now in that Ginn will never be a number 1 WR.  Hell, I have my doubts if he can be a legit #3!  Point is, he had two huge plays which were instrumental in beating the stinking Jets…as a matter of fact, he had 3 huge plays in 3 weeks that were a big part of beating the Jets twice.

Did he F%$& up against the Colts and Saints and pretty much the rest of the season…Yes, but why take away from a win against the Jets.  I am NOT drinking the Ted Ginn Kool Aid in any way.  Just because I’m jacked up over beating the Jets in happy that Ginn FINALLY made a contribution, doesn’t mean I think he has “turned it around” or “is back”.

Ginn is Ginn and will probably disappear for at least a couple if games if not more, but that doesn’t change what he did yesterday and I will enjoy that for the next week….jeeze, it might be the last good thing we get to celebrate with regards to Ginn.

Just as I said, you write 2 lengthy paragraphs totally ripping him apart and then throw out a “Seriously, great game!”  Come on man, you don’t rip on Fasano or Bess or anyone like that, and while they are not as deserving as Ginn (for the rippings I mean), they both have had their share of timely drops and costly fumbles.

Why not just enjoy it for what it is and rip him next week when he deserves it, AGAIN!

PS….we’re still going to hang in Miami next week, right?   :)

  15. idahomer says:

    Brian,

Come on now – Denver Fin Fan didn’t name me Idahomer for nothing.. I have rose colored glasses on, and I do cheer for Ginn every week to be the player we all expect him to be. My biggest issue is that we don’t pat him on the back when he does well, but we rip him when he doesn’t. Your post is like the majority I’ve read today. Ginn did what he is good at – return kicks, but still sucks as a WR. I happen to think he is the best WR on this team – maybe not a #1 or even a #2 on other teams, but he is the best we have IMO.. Again – Idahomer because I wear rose colored glasses, and even argued that AJ Feeley could be the next Marino.. That’s me – glass half full bleeding heart.. If you wear the aqua and orange chances are I’ll stick up for you!

  16. ripplerat says:

Let’s face it, The Fins staff overvalued Ginn when they picked him in the first round. That doesn’t mean that he can’t be a big contributer if he is used effectiviely.
And that is what happened on Sunday agaist the Jets when he was brought in to return kickoffs. This (and punt returns) was his specialty in college.
The Fins have had a relatively poor return team for some time. We all know that Field position is a big part of the game.
Here’s to hoping the staff has re evaluated Ginn’s talent and is willing to move forward on that basis.

  17. hawk9810 says:

Brian has this article dead on!!!  Ginn does deserve props for FINALLY contributing to a Dolphin victory.  However, this does not give him a free pass for being a less than averager WR in this league.  He has to commit himself to becoming the reciever he said that MIAMI was getting when drafted.  Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he say he would prove himself worthy of the #9 pick?  To me one game with 2 returns this year a game with 150+ yard recieving last year does not make him worthy.  I hope he does turn the corner but he has not been a #9 pick yet.  Catch the ball TED!!!!!!!!

  18. Dolphin39 says:

    +1
Like i said before Ginn is a Reggie Bush clone.Like Reggie he was drafted as RB.Then put him as Return guy.Now teams know his game and he can’t do either.Ginn was drafted for WR.Not #1 PR/KR guy..If thats the case cut his pay,put him and return guy and get a #1 WR on the team.To keep him just cause he’s good as returns at his pay is nuts.Thats like hiring a Top Notch auto mechanic but you find out he can only work on weedeaters. But he sure can work a broom.
