The Miami Dolphins have not officially placed NT Jason Ferguson on IR…yet. The 34 year old star of Miami’s vaunted defensive line has suffered a knee injury that will likely sideline him for the remainder of the season, and possibly shelve his 13 year career. Ferguson was one of many Dolphins who went down with injury in Thursdays game against the Panthers.
Also ailing are center Jake Grove with a high ankle sprain, guard Justin Smiley, Nate Garner, and back-up center Joe Berger. The focus for now is on Ferguson who if in fact does end up on IR will be the 2nd full time starter in as many weeks to go on the list. Following of course Ronnie Brown. The Dolphins who had the toughest schedule coming into the season are not finding the go ahead very favorable with injuries mounting.
For Ferguson, like Brown, the bigger question is what will his future be. Ferguson stated earlier in the year that he will retire at the end of this season or sign an extension with the Dolphins, ruling out a 14th season for any other team. Ferguson’s contract expires after this season and it appears that moving forward, the Phins will be hunting for another big bodied NT after the season.
