So the Miami Dolphins finally confirmed what everyone knew. Jason Ferguson is done for the year and his newly annointed status on the team all-star list known as the team IR list may very well have played his last game, snap, and whistle in his 13 year career. The only thing that was surprising of this news was the fact that Ferguson is out due to a torn quad and not the knee injury that was originally reported.
The news comes almost 4 days after the Phins beat the Carolina Panthers to get back to .500 on the season. The Phins will travel to Buffalo this week before facing a tough stretch to the final weekend. They will face the Patriots, Jaguars, Titans, Texans, and Steelers to close out their season and while each game is winnable, it just got a whole lot harder.
A mainstay on the defensive line, Ferguson’s IR status could have as much impact on the defense as the IR status of Ronnie Brown. Both are spearheads on their side of the ball. For now, Randy Starks and Tony McDaniels will have to carry the load until Paul Soliai comes back from his dings. The talk will turn however to Ferguson’s future as he has stated that retirement is his option should he not re-sign with the Dolphins after this season. He is in the final year of his contract.
