Breaking News: Jason Ferguson Suspended

The Miami Dolphins will definitely be looking for a new NT for the 2010 season.  Free agent NT Jason Ferguson, recovering from an injury will miss the first 8 games of the 2010 season after being suspended by the NFL on Saturday.

Details of the suspension are still sketchy but it is believed that the big NT violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy on performance enhancing drugs.  This report comes from Howard Balzer of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.

If this does in fact prove to true, the Dolphins, who many thought would re-sign Ferguson will be forced to look elsewhere either in a restricted free agent or in the draft as major priority.  Ferguson was rumored to be considering retirement if he did not rejoin Miami.  That appears now to be a foregone conclusion.

With the way the free agent market is shaping up, and now this. I expect the Dolphins to try and acquire an additional 2nd or 3rd round pick in the draft, or both.

That’s a great idea. How do we get them?

No way the Phins wait till the 2nd round to pick a decent NT. They won’t trade the pick and grab their NT providing there’s one to be had that’s worth the 12th pick of the draft. If not, don’t be surprised for them to pick up a DE or another LB. One thing is for sure, the offense won’t get much help other than the later rounds or through free agents. The defense is what killed the Phins last year and Parcells being Parcells, won’t let that happen again.
