The Beasts Of The East: Final Defense

The Miami Dolphins have made a very strong showing in the best of the NFL AFC East Division “All-Star” team.  Despite the number one ranking that is often dolled out on the NY Jets, It was the Miami Dolphins who landed more players on this unit.

Compiled by the writers of Musket Fire, The Jet Press, and BuffalowDown.com, and of course myself, we have wrapped the defensive side of the ball and the special teams and will now swing to the offensive unit.

For the list below, all positions except Safety and Cornerback were decided on by the writing staff.  The secondary positions were decided by poll voting on Musket Fire.

Defensive End: Shaun Ellis (New York Jets) and Randy Starks (Miami Dolphins)

Nose Tackle: Vince Wilfork (Patriots)

Inside Linebacker: Karlos Dansby (Dolphins) and David Harris (NYJ)

Outside Linebacker: Aaron Schobel (Buffalo Bills) and Calvin Pace (NYJ)

Corner back: Darrelle Revis (NYJ) and Vontae Davis (Dolphins)

Nickel Back: Will Allen (Dolphins)

Free Safety: Jairus Byrd (Bills)

Strong Safety: Yeremiah Bell (Dolphins)

What do you think of this list and what does it mean that AFC East writers think this highly of the Dolphins defensive players?

I like the list but would make 1 change. Vontae Davis is only in his second year and though he has potential, there are better CBs in our division. I would have picked a healthy Terrence McGee. Though I hate to take 1 away from the fins and I think Davis will make the list many years in a row. I just don’t see him as the best behind Revis for this year only. If I was building a team to play year after year then I would go with Davis.

IMO Mcgee was the only real other option. He makes the list as a special teams returner though for whatever it’s worth. In the readers voting, Davis took 1st and Will Allen 2nd so Mcgee wasn’t even in the top 2. Cromartie of the Jets was 3rd in voting and Leigh Bodden was 4th. I don’t think either one of them are better than Davis.

I would have Mayo over Harris other then that the only argument there could be is having Bell over Meriweather (putting my bias aside).

Its a sad shame when a average OLB like Pace makes the list. Maybe Wake or Misi will change that.
