UPDATE: Kory Sheets is out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury. he is the 3rd player in two weeks to be lost for the season following AJ Edds and Phillip Merling.
The Miami Dolphins lost AJ Edds on Monday with a torn ACL. The rookie was supposed to compete for 3rd down passing situations from the middle linebacker spot. Today, the injury bug has decided to stay on its South Florida vacation and attack another player competing for playing time and a roster spot.
Kory Sheets a Dolphins running back with little chance of making the roster at that position, was poised to make a stand on special teams. Specifically in the return game. Sheets’ speed put him as one of the fastest players on the roster and many believed that he would easily take over the role that Ted Ginn occupied last year.
Unfortunately the Dolphins and Sheets may have to wait a bit longer.
According to media reports, Sheets went down untouched during a punt drill. He limped off the field with assistance and it appears that he may have suffered a torn hamstring. At this point that is merely speculation that coincides with the amount of pain and the description of the incident from those in attendance.
For now, the Dolphins and Sheets will have to wait it out and see what exactly the problem is and then what the prognosis is. Still, the injuries have started and that is not a good sign for a team that has a plethora of young talent they will be relying on.
UPDATE: Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald and multiple other sources are now confirming it was an achilles injury, the Dolphins have yet to confirm it is indeed a tear but the Herald has reported that to be the injury. Kory will now, reportedly, miss the entire season. Sheets recently tweeted a message to Dolphins fans:
#Dolphins don’t worry ppl I’m ok this is just a bump n the road I’ll be back faster n better then ever. Thanks for the Love. GO FINS!!!
