You know what I find funny? In this day and age, teams no longer release formal statements about releases. Everyone finds out because some “tweets” that they are on their way home. What an era of instant info.
UPDATE: Dolphins waive Lionel Dotson
UDPATE: The Dolphins offensive line purge continues as Andrew Hartline has been released.
The Miami Dolphins have cut Patrick Turner.
UPDATE: According to Adam Schefter the “thin at Oline” Miami Dolphins have released Donald Thomas. They have to have an idea of someone on the free agent market.
The Miami Dolphins have begun the tedious task of trimming their roster and the first name, while not a complete surprise, is a surprise to be the first name mentioned. Patrick Turner. Turner a 3rd round draft pick a year ago joins Montavious Stanley as the first names to be trimmed. The release of Turner almost assuredly means that Marlon Moore will make the roster, and possibly Roberto Wallace.
Turner has yet to show the growth that the Dolphins expected when they drafted him in the 2009 draft and the trade for Brandon Marshall put Turner’s stock even lower.
Stanley was competing for a job as a 3rd nose tackle but couldn’t beat out the resilient and improving Paul Solia’.
UPDATES: LB Austin Spitler and Erik Walden have been released as well.
The release of Spitler and Walden mean that JD Folsom has likely made the final 53.
The release of Donald Thomas comes as a bit of surprise. Thomas hasn’t played well but given his potential and the main fact that the Dolphins are very shallow on the depth side of the Oline, I’m surprised. I have to imagine that the team will be adding a few FA’s off the street list this weekend.
