New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested last night in Manhattan under suspicion of DWI. Edwards was arrested at 5:15 AM for having heavily tinted windows when officers smelled alcohol and Edwards was eventually booked. Obviously in this country you are innocent until proven guilty, but Edwards does have a history with this sort of offense and is actually on probation for this in Ohio.
In fact, this may violate Edwards probation in Ohio which would further complicate things for the receiver. The Jets’ GM Mike Tannenbaum issued the following statement:
“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions this morning,” Tannenbaum said in a statement. “We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures.”
What that punishment is remains to be seen, but league-imposed punishment may also be a possibility. Regardless, this is not a good thing for the Jets the week before coming down to face Miami. With Darrelle Revis and potentially Braylon Edwards out against the Dolphins we may really get to take a look at the depth of the ‘almighty’ Jets. That is, if they actually suspend Edwards. And with their other star receiver, Santonio Holmes, already serving a four game suspension, that’s anything but a given.
