The First Monday Nighter 1975
Lets hope history repeats tonight, this is the first Monday Night Meeting of the two franchises. Miami were undefeated on Monday Night Football coming into this game, New England had lost their previous Monday Night attempt. Miami ran out 20 – 7 winners and set the tone for some great games over the years.
Wuda! Shuda! Cuda!
AFC Championship 1986 the Dolphins wuda gone on and beat them “bad ol” Bears a second time, only the Patriots stood in the way. This shuda been the start of a great run for Miami, losing the Superbowl in 82/84 left a bad taste!Marino’s second chance at a Superbowl, man we cuda been the “team of the 80’s”. Bad weather and a stiff New England defense kept us out (we have never come close since!) New England ran out winners, then, they got done in by da Bears !! After that, the 80’s fell away into the 90’s.
This one is here just because of Jason Allen’s recent slip, on that damned dirt! (how many games has it cost us now?)
It’s 2003 we’re close, so close Olindo Mare needs to just kick a 33yd FG and we go out winners. “It’s up and it’s” ….. The rest is history, he had to kick from that damn dirt! New England take this game, the season, man the whole decade!! meanwhile Miami sink into a bottomless hole for six years.
I love this game, 2008 we’re coming off a loss to Arizona, Henning & Sparano come up with the “Wildcat”much to the chagrin of the Patriots LOL! Ronnie Brown, 5 TD’s!! Miami run out 38 – 13 winners, that game blows New England away and they miss the playoffs…. Miami, oh yeah, we only go on to make the Playoffs as Division champs it for the first time since 2000.
So, does this rivarly have less fuel than the Jets? Over the years we have been treated to some great games, the 1980 Monday night overtime win, the Snow plow game, the 1994 shoot out in the rain, even that Doug “I’m only 4ft tall but played forever” Flutie drop kick makes me smile.
Bring on Monday Night Football, bring on those patsy’s !!
Thanks for reading another Historical Highlight.
