UPDATE: Brian Hartline has been placed on IR. The Dolphins have promoted former Miami Hurricane TE Dedrick Epps. While the Hartline placement is not overly surprising, the adding of a TE is. Many felt that WR Julius Pruitt would have been signed off the practice squad instead.
The Miami Dolphins will travel into East Rutherford, NJ to take on the New York Jets tomorrow and while the weather will be a little better than originally expected, 53 and a chance of rain, the team will be without WR Brian Hartline and RT Vernon Carey for the contest.
Hartline had surgery earlier in the week to repair damage to his finger sustained in last weekends loss to the Browns while Carey will miss time with a sprained knee.
The Phins will get back WR Brandon Marshall provided he doesn’t re-injure the hamstring that had him sidelined since the Tennessee Titans game.
While little is good when your team is 6-6 and facing official elimination from the playoff chase, the Dolphins defense has risen from a paltry 22nd overall defense to number 4 overall and ahead of the much hyped New York Jets.
The 2010 Dolphins are 4th against the pass and 9th against the run. They are doing so without their number 1 draft pick in Jared Odrick and a secondary unit that has been swapping out safeties most of the season. The team also lacks a solid middle linebacker to compliment Karlos Dansby. Oh, they don’t have Jason Taylor either. Any doubts to the coaching of Mike Nolan can be laid to rest now.
The Dolphins will need this 4th ranked defense to keep the Jets under wraps on Sunday. Matt “Sanchize” has been faltering lately and the Dolphins will try and use the weather to their advantage forcing the Jets to win the game on the ground.
