Breaking Down the Secondary – Part II Strong Safety

In part I of the series we took a closer look at the Free Safety position, today we can focus our attention on the strong side – the Strong Safety position.

In Nolan’s defense the SS is highly marked as the linebacker of the secondary, someone that can come and easily help in the run support as well as bring a presence in the passing game.  Let’s take a closer look at that we have on our team, potential prospects that might be available in the draft and free agency.

I always love your stuff Bahamas! It truly helps me better understand football and more specifically, the secondary.

I’m a big fan of Bell, and I know we have to think about possible future replacements, but I’m not willing to count out Bell for the long term….after some injury bugs his first few seasons, I think he’s become much more durable and I think he can be a Brian Hawkins type who can play well into his 30′s and at a high rate.

Would you not consider Clemons or R.Jones as a SS candidate if needed? Maybe Jones more than Clemons?
