The NFLPA publicly said that the NFL was wrong in the use of the franchise tag this season. The NFL said they were right. And so goes the ongoing feud. Today, the New England Patriots challenged the assertion by the NFLPA and tagged RG Logan Mankins.
Mankins will make over 10 million in 2011 if there is a season. While it remains to be seen if the franchise tag will hold up under legal scrutiny the Patriots are making sure that a team like the, ummm, Miami Dolphins don’t get the man for free. The Dolphins investigated the possibility of a trade for Mankins with NE before the trade deadline last season. A rare inter-division trade was never made, obviously.
Mankins was non-committal in his desire to return to New England when asked at this years Pro-Bowl.
Teams were allowed to use the franchise tag starting on February 10th. No other team has used that right as of yet.
