Shucks. Of all of the options, free agency and draft, the one that I thought would be the best fit for the Miami Dolphins was De’Angelo Williams.
You’ll remember that Williams was passed over for the franchise tag by center Ryan Kalil. That didn’t damper his spirits though. Williams told Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer,
“My thoughts are still the same, I want to be here. But until we get a CBA deal done we can only speculate on the endless possibilites. But yes, I want to be a Panther.”
Obviously, he could be one of a thousand athletes that tell the media what they want to hear. However, he certainly isn’t following the example of his old teammate Julius Peppers, who left as fast as his feet would take him.
It seems to be a given that the Dolphins are not going to use their first round pick on Mark Ingram. To be honest, none of the rushers available in the later round excite me too much. I want someone with experience, someone we know can gain positive yards every time they touch the ball. Is Reggie Bush that guy? Doubtful. He likes to run sideways. Cadillac Williams? He’s hurt more than DeAngelo Williams and Ronnie Brown combined.
I hope that DeAngelo Williams at least tests the free agent market (assuming there is one). He will certainlygarner interest, and I expect the Dolphins to be right at the top of that list.
