Mr. Jones and MIA?

Hello again, Phanatics. I am glad to be a part of the Phin Phanatic team and my first article a few weeks back was a look ahead to this April’s NFL Draft. Following up from that, and being that we are finishing up with Scouting Combine weekend, I thought a look back as well as a look ahead is appropriate.

In my inaugural article with this site, I stressed the importance of offense in this year’s selection process. Last season, the Bill Parcells led front-office went Old School Tuna, and built the ’10 draft class from the font-line players, back. Going DT, LB, and OL in the first day, with a slew of defensive picks to follow…all but one plays on the defensive side of the ball.

In 2011, GM Jeff Ireland now has his shot at creating a Dolphins team under his own image; minus a few inevitable calls from the Tuna, while the NFL mastermind is lounging pool side flipping through the chronicles trying to decide his next NFL reclamation project.  (Don’t be the Bills, don’t be the Bills, don’t be the Bills!)

It’d be nice if Jones falls to miami, but I don’t see it. Most likely option is a trade down to the latter part of the first round. Torrey Smith would be a great addition in the second round, especially since he’s a kick returner.
