The NFL and the NFLPA agreed to a 24 hour extension shortly after 5:30 eastern time. That extension is now down to about 8 hours...and counting.
There is as much divide outside of the labor discussions as apparently between the two actually negotiating. Whispers say that they are close to an agreement while other whispers hint at nothing short of a lockout or decertified union.
For my money, forget about a deal until at least September. I doubt they will be able to even agree on another extension.
In Dolphins related news, the Phins made a last ditch effort to sign Richie Incognito to return next season. Many thought he would be hitting the free agent market but with that in serious doubt, it appears that the two sides worked out a deal. Whether he is penciled in as a center or guard will remain to be seen.
Nate Garner was also tendered this week as well. Garner is a high ceiling prospect who simply can’t seem to stay healthy. The Phins are banking on that this year.
Tyler Thigpen has said that he will NOT sign his 2nd round tender that was placed on him by the team. Many 4 year veterans are expecting a new CBA will allow them to become free agents and Thigpen wants an opportunity to shop his arm for a starting gig.
Jeremy Shockey opted for the Carolina Panthers and their one year 2 million dollar offer over Miami who were likely offering far less. So much for his “It would be a dream to play for the Dolphins” comment. It should be noted that his college coach Rob Chudzinski is the new OC in Carolina.
