This really isn’t news at all, but because of who I am and because of how much I miss Sam, it’s cool nonetheless.
In honor of the idea that in the draft, each team is looking for a potential legend, each second round selection will be announced by a past legend of the team that is drafting.
In the case of the Dolphins, Jets and Panthers who don’t have second rounders, their representative will be announcing the third round selection. (unless, I assume, the Dolphins are able to re-acquire their second rounder)
Who will the Dolphins representative be? Not Dan Marino. Not Zach Thomas. Nope. None other than good ol’ boy Sam Madison. I don’t know about you but I long for the days when the outside was covered by Madison and Patrick Surtain. Those two (plus Thomas and Jason Taylor) made our defense fun to watch when I was growing up.
It’s a cool gesture by the NFL to let these players come back and announce the selections. Maybe they can have some input in the war room. Lord knows the Dolphins need all the help they can get in there.
Other notable players making announcements:
Detroit- Barry Sanders
St. Louis- Marshall Faulk
Denver- Shannon Sharpe
Pittsburgh- Franco Harris
Tampa Bay- John Lynch
San Diego- Natrone Means
