Miami Inducts Mandich Into “Ring Of Honor”

The Miami Dolphins announced tonight during the “Celebration of Jim Mandich” tribute at Sun Life Stadium that Jim Mandich is now honored with a “Special Contributors” award that will place him on the Miami Dolphins “Ring of Honor”. Fittingly, the award was announced at the end of the celebration by Dolphins HOF HC, Don Shula.

The plaque that comes along with the honor will be placed in the broadcast booth where Mandich called home since 1992 sans 3 years away from the booth. His son Michael was presented with the honor.

It was also announced that 500 of the Dolphins alumni, who vote on the annual honor, submitted to the Dolphins that Mandich be immediately added to the ROH citing the fact that Mandich “Was” and “IS” the Miami Dolphins. Fans will agree.

The event itself was a two hour event that presented some personal stories from close friends from the booth, the field, and from his college days at Michigan. In closing, Jimmy Cefalo told the crowd that Jim would have thanked the fans first and foremost because “Jim loved you”. Anyone who has ever met Jim Mandich would agree.

Now, Jim Mandich will forever be a visual part of the team that he defined so fittingly both on and off the field.

A very big thank you to the Miami Dolphins for providing our site with the live feed to this event.

Not to be rude, but why didn’t the Dolphins do this before? You know when Mad Dog could have seen his name on the wall…

I dont know…a lot of fans ask the same question. As a player he was solid but not elite and made his rep to fans in the broadcast booth and with philanthropy. Maybe thats why i dont know.
