Remembering The "Mad Dog"

Tonight the Miami Dolphins and Phins-Nation will pay tribute to Mr. Miami Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich at Sun Life Stadium.  Mandich passed away last week after a 2 year bout with bile-duct cancer at the age of 62.  And guess what?  You don’t have to live in Miami to watch the tribute.  If you do, by all means go, it’s free…if not, simply come back to this site tonight around 6:00 for a live broadcast of tonights event.

Long known for his life as a Dolphins player on the field in the glory days of the early 70’s, Mandich became known to more generations of fans when he became the voice of the Miami Dolphins on the radio.  Broadcasting the games and coining the phrase, “Awwright Miami”.

Something that this year, we should all scream when the Dolphins score their first home game touchdown!

Tonight, the Phins will pay tribute to that man.  Long recognized as one of Miami’s favorite personalities, Mandich is not on the “Ring of Honor” but that is likely to change soon.  Albeit not tonight.

The Miami Dolphins, through MiamiDolphins.com graciously have offered to provide us with a “live” feed of tonights tribute and we will carry that for you here starting around 6:00 PM.    Please use this opportunity to say farewell to the Mad Dog.  Players come and go all the time, some losses sting a lot deeper.  Jim Mandich was the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Dolphins’ is Jim Mandich.  May his family and Jim find peace.
