Let’s Speculate…

Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers
Trade:
Miami send 2nd and conditional 6th round pick to Green Bay Packer
Green Bay sends JerMichael Finely

Analysis:
Miami has been ignoring the tight end position since….Keith Jackson left.  We once had a glimmer of hope with Randy McMichael, but he was cut from our team.  Let’s be real for a second, the only way to expose 3-4 D is with a hybrid TE.  One of previous stories explains why, so if you want check it out.

Back to the trade, Finely will be a UFA next season, and Green Bay won the Super Bowl without him, which makes him expendable.  Green Bay is never one to open up their wallets on situational player, and a player they know that they can win without.  Therefore, might as well trade him and receive a development player in return.

Miami gets arguably one of the best TE’s in the game.  Yes the Dolphins signed Fasano to a contract extension but we can easily cut ties with him at the start of next season.   Charles Clay was drafted in the 6th round of this year draft, you can’t ask for a better mentor.

The 6th round pick is conditional based on the Dolphins signing Finely to a contract.   If we honestly want to win our division, where all team implement a 3-4 D, we need the best asset we can find, and that is Finely.

Make the trade with no regrets.

Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles
Trade:
Seattle gets Kevin Kolb
Philadelphia gets 1st and 3rd round pick

Analysis:
First of all I think Washington has learned their lesson about trading draft picks away for another Philly QB…Mike S is not that stupid.  So I can’t see them making another intra division trade.

Now Seattle sent a 2nd round for Charlie W, but that didn’t plan out, but you never know. Maybe Carol is looking for healthy competition so, go out and get the best QB available.

Philly somehow does this every year, almost as good as the Patriots, but get another set of draft picks to play around with next year and develop from within.

Seattle needs a QB, they will release Matt, and need to get younger and excite the fans once again.  Arizona is also in the picture, but won’t give up a 1st and 3rd round pick….management is smart, and rumours are floating that Fitz is pushing for McNabb.

Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans
Trade:
Washington gets Vince Young
Tennessee gets Albert Haynesworth

Analysis:
This a straight up trade…Drama for drama.  Washington needs a bootleg QB and I think Mike S can work with Vince Young, and at the same time he gets rid of his biggest headache.  Signing Big Aly was a mistake, and maybe returning to his only team that he saw success might allow some sort of relief.  Booth players will have to restructure their contracts to make this happen, but sometimes getting rid of one headache for another makes sense.

Dick's Sporting Goods presents "Hell Week":

  • YO YO

Bahamas, if Miami does get Finely, this would make our O one of the top in terms of talent. It would be great to surround Henne with all these weapons, and I can agree with your logic.

    “Big Aly” that’s funny

  • dolphinsfreak

Zach Miller is a free agent so I think the Dolphins should explore that avenue before going after Finley, if nothing else but to save themselves from having to give up draft picks. However, if the Dolphins do go after a tight end in free agency or in a trade with the Packers, I will start to have some respect for them and hope for the future of this organization. Like you stated, the Dolphins organization has ignored this position for many, many years. So if they were to actually notice that is is a vital postion worthy of attacking by signing an elite player I feel it will instantly move us one step closer to a Super Bowl.

DF – are you sure Miller’s a UFA? I thought i read somewhere he was only restricted, very similar to Michael Bush, and the Raiders both put qaulifying offers on both players.

      • dolphinsfreak

From everything I have read Zach Miller IS a free agent, but the Raiders plan to make him their first signing. Pro Football Weekly – “The Raiders face some serious questions when free agency begins. It is already assumed that they will let CB Nnamdi Asomugha, OG Robert Gallery and FS Michael Huff sign elsewhere, as those players’ expected price tags don’t match what the team is willing to offer. But what does Oakland do about a couple of its offensive playmakers, TE Zach Miller and RB Michael Bush? The way we hear it, the team will make Miller its top priority, hoping to lock up the 25-year-old Pro Bowler to a long-term deal after he led the team in receptions, yards and TD catches last season. Without a true No. 1 wide receiver, Miller will be a focal point of the Silver and Black attack again in 2011.”

Zach Miller would be a great pickup yes. But the reports are that his chances are high that the Raiders will re-sign him. I was really crossing my figers that Owen Daniels would fall through the cracks, but no such luck. Fasano is as good as any TE, but he was used more as a blocker last year. I’m intrigued with the prospect of having him and Charles Clay together. I think Daboll will make him a versatile part of the offense similar to woodhead for the Pats. I haven’t put too much thought into trades, but Jermichael Finley would be an amazing pickup. Not sure the Packers will part with him, but they “did” draft DJ Williams this year. I personally think the biggest priorities this offseason should be to get a ballhawk free safety and secure another QB to fill Pennington’s spot. I hope it’s not a high profile guy like Kolb or Hasselbeck, but rather somebody under the radar with lots of upside like Marc Bulger or Matt Leinart.

    • bahamas

Ian, thanks for the reminder of DJ Williams..only will add to the ‘speculation’.
If you have ever reviewed the majority of my articles or post on the forum, you and I are on the same page….I want a ball hawk Safety. I don’t know how many times we can afford to pass on this, but once Free Agency opens up, let’ hope we bring in DeAndre McDaniels (if healthy)…he would be an instant upgrade.

  • Jimmy Jam

Robert Gallery would be a huge signing and I hope they get him because they still need a lot of help on the line. He is a beast of a guard and they need that more than any position on that line (assuming Pouncey pans out). Finley would be a great pick up as would Miller.

However, the CBA is not as close as has been reported and the NFL/palyers are close to losing me for the season. Thsi has gone on long enough and they can’t even sit down for two days straight without Goodell or Smith taking a few days away from the negotiations? Not much of a sense of urgency from this fan’s perspective. Anyway, all in all it’s pretty disgusting. I love my Fins but they haven’t been much to look at since Shula and I can’t say I have much faith in the staff that’s there now. I will be a fan through thick and thin but it’s going to take a lot to go better than 8-8 this year. This staff, even with its changes, doesn’t exactly inspire much hope, sadly.
