So far the talk on the street is that the Miami Dolphins are set to add several names to their roster later today when the signing period for un-drafted rookies begins. The first names to pop-up on the list are below. The Dolphins have apparently committed to these players verbally and will add them to their roster this afternoon when teams can begin to sign their rookies, un-drafted free agents, and begin negotiations with veteran free agents.
According to the latest, the Miami Dolphins have added, or will add, FAU QB Jeff Van Camp. Van Camp is a local product with a side arm release and will become what will likely be the fourth QB in training camp. The Dolphins already have Chad Henne and Tom Brandstater. Tyler Thigpen is a free agent and the Phins will be looking to add a veteran QB to compete either off the FA market or VIA trade.
The Dolphins have around 23 vacancies on their roster as teams will carry 90 players into training camp. Starting on August 4th, the top 51 player salaries will count against the 120 million dollar salary cap. According to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins will add around 11 or 12 un-drafted free agents this morning. Here are a few other names that the Phins have reportedly committed to on this first day of post-lockout frenzy.
Arizona tailback Nic Grigsby, Penn State TE Brett Brackett, and South Carolina offensive guard Garrett Chisolm to the training camp roster. San Diego State cornerback Jose Perez, who is 5-foot-11, 183 pounds and runs a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash, is also in the mix. – Omar Kelly
