Meet Lydon Murtha

If you have been reading the news coming out of the Fins training camp, you have probably read about Lydon Murtha. However, if you are like me, you may not know too much about him. It is time to change that. As a brief info, take a look at this video.

Lydon Murtha at Nebraska

Lydon was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 7th round of the 2008 draft out of the linemen producing machine, Nebraska Cornhuskers. Yes, I realize the 7th round doesn’t sound very impressive, but the potential is there. As you saw in the video his combine numbers were just off the charts. The Lions placed him on the practice squad in 2009 where he was plucked by the Fins in October of 2009.

Believe it or not, Murtha is from Homestead, FL. and coming to Miami was a homecoming for him. He played LT in Nebraska and currently serves as the primary backup for Big Jake. I can’t help but think that the coaching staff is keeping Jake out of practice, partly due to health concerns and partly to see what this kid has. By the reports I have read, Lydon is holding his own against rook and vets alike. It would be a luxury to see him develop and add depth to the O line.
