What’s that?… is it a plane?…is it a train?.. is it a flea?… no, it’s Phillip Livas!!
This undrafted “mega mite” showed that even though your “little”, you can still perform ” big” in the NFL. Back in the day most teams had “mini men” on board, from Lionel” little train” James, to James Brooks! Little guys littered the NFL like confetti (well probably not as much as that, but you get the idea). The Dolphins even had a few guys, most notable, the dimniutive Troy Stradford. Watching these guys go week in and week out against 250- 300lb defenders always made me wonder how they did it. Seeing one of those small runningbacks or corners buried under a pile of bodies, made you wince thinking of the crumpled body underneath, but “hey presto” like a rabbit out of a hat they’d bounce up, jog back to the huddle smiling and waving… “what the!” … next play right back at em’! It was always funny to watch a small DB getting run over by some 245lb RB (apart from when it’s our DB, sorry Don ! One thing I tell the new guys over here in England when they sign up to play American Football is: that more than any other sport, there is a position for everyone in this game! And Mr Livas is an excellent example of this.
Of course, being only 5′ 5″ myself, I have an affinity with the small guys, so to see Mr Livas turn on the afterburners and get his first NFL touchdown, fills me full of pride “go little guy”!
Here’s hopin Mr Livas can catch on and turn a decent punt return into a nice “little” NFL career!
But as we know, life in the NFL is hard! So even if that one punt return is all we see …. then congratulations! Mr Livas for one shinning moment you had the spot light, you were “the man” and boy, I bet your parents were proud!
P.S: please can you keep the touchdowns coming, it’s been far too long since we had any kind of “special team”.
