Miami Dolphins Cut Twenty

The Miami Dolphins have pared down their roster and will almost assuredly be changing the bottom of the roster over the next few days.  So while some surprised individuals are on the 53, it may not be a good idea to buy a house just yet.

The Dolphins didn’t make any  major surprise cuts this afternoon but they did make a few.

DT Ronnie Fields was released in favor of the younger Ryan Baker.  Lousaka Polite’s tenure in Miami is over as is Will Allen’s.  The Dolphins have decided to stick with two QB’s on their roster a trend that has begun all over the NFL as they released Kevin O’Connell and Delaware product Pat Devlin.  Devlin is likely to land on the PS.

CB Vincent Agnew, Nate Ness, and safety Mark Restelli were released from the secondary.  Many fans are hopeful that the Dolphins will show interest in released Safety Brandon Merriweather.  Don’t count on it.  Miami is likely to add depth players to the roster.
TE Brett Brackett and Mickey Shuler were released leaving Anthony Fasano backed up by Jeron Mastrud.  On the WR front, the Dolphins will go with six deciding to keep Marlon Moore and Roberto Wallace while releasing Patrick Carter, Phillip Livas, John Mathews, and Julius Pruitt.

G Garrett Chisolm was a long shot for the final 53 and today he did not make it.  A minor surprise was that guard John Jerry did make it and Ray Willis did not.  Tackles Matt Kopa and D.J. Jones were also waived from the line.

Nicolas Grigsby and Larry Johnson are gone leaving the Dolphins with three running backs.  Lex Hilliard will fill the third slot.

Defensively, the Dolphins released Jonathan Freeny a linebacker while keeping Austin Spitler.  LB’s Robert Rose, Quinton Spears, and David Nixon were also cut.

The Dolphins also placed OT Lydon Murtha on injured reserve.  Murtha was the primary back-up to Jake Long and started in all of the pre-season games on the left side.  The Dolphins are thin at oline so it will be a surprise if they do not pursue free agents.

We will keep you updated over the weekend and breakdown what the roster changes mean.
