Here is a great article by one of our San Diego Chargers writer, Paul Maland. It’s really worth the read as he looks at some of the stats from our Miami Dolphins and then compares them to the San Diego Chargers elite players at those same positions. I won’t go into the breakdown that he does, but here are some stats from that article that are worth noting.
Brandon Marshall vs. Vincent Jackson:
Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush Vs. Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert:
Thomas: 41 att, 202 yds. Bush: 27 att, 69 yds.
Mathews: 45 att, 207 yds. Tolbert: 25 att, 64 yds.
Note: Thomas did not play against New England and was used sparingly in the fourth quarter against the Browns. It should also be noted that Tolbert has two TD’s receiving and Mathews has 3 on the ground.
Chad Henne Vs. Phillip Rivers:
Henne: 61 completions, 841 yds, AVG 7.8 yds, 4 TD, 3 INT, Long Pass 41 yds
Rivers: 86 completions, 979 yds, AVG 7.8 yds, 4 TD, 6 INT, Long Pass 37 yds
While Rivers clearly has the completions and yards, it should be noted that two of Henne’s three INT’s came on the last play of a game, one of which was a meaningless hail mary and the other was when pass protection failed against Houston and the ball was hit out of his hand.
