A Must Read On Dolphins Ireland/Ross Relationship

This is a must read if you want to go behind the scenes of Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and General Manager Jeff Ireland’s relationship. It will clue you in on why Ireland may be safe and Sparano may not be and why Sparano still may be here now as opposed to later. It’s a very good read from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

I have a hard time disagreeing with Ross on Ireland. I think his drafts have been solid, well thought out. I didn’t like the Thomas pick but it looks like I was wrong about that. That guy will not go down. If the Colombo deal really is on Sparano, I’d prefer to keep Ireland moving forward.

I also think his strategy of not overpaying for FAs or trades is sound. Soliai, Wake, Langford, guys like that, much as I like them, haven’t shown the consistency that would merit a big payday.

Anyway…overall I’ve been impressed by the FO under Ireland (sans Parcells). I’d quibble with relying on Clay as the TE we need but the TE class wasn’t that good. I also thought more of the free agent guards than he did, but this feels nothing like watching Ginn get selected at 9.

I just wonder how much better we would be w/ Sproles instead of Bush. Would have been double the years (4) for the same amount of money. I like the fiscal responsibility, but maybe, just maybe, you could spend a little extra on the line or a kick ass once in a lifetime DB/S. If the draft has truly been Ireland then he has done an excellent job. Guys need to get over injuries so we can see what they can do. I sort of agree w/ mgoodwin04. I like the Thomas pick, I just think we gave up to much. Liked him as a 3rd pick, not 2nd, but if he keeps playing well a second was a good pick.
