Should the Dolphins Sign David Garrard?

I’m curious as to your opinion here. According to a bunch of sources, the Dolphins have been in talks to bring in a veteran quarterback, now that it’s a distinct possibility that Chad Henne will miss a good amount of time.

Last I read, they were in talks with both David Garrard and Jake Delhomme, but both deals stalled because the Dolphins would not guarantee any portion of their salaries, and neither quarterback wants to be signed for just a week or two.

Garrard especially, does not want to just be on a roster; he wants to play. I believe that between these two, you sign Garrard and it isn’t close. He has passed for over 16,000 yards in his career, and in both 2008 and 2009, he was right at the 3,500 mark. He can run, which is important behind this line which right now, my grandmother could get around. If we sign Delhomme, he will be a sitting duck back there, and doesn’t have the decision making skills to get the ball out fast enough. If this was 2004, I’d go with Delhomme. In 2011, it’s Garrard, plain and simple.

I don’t really understand why Garrard was cut in the first place. Were the Jaguars really better off for a few weeks with Luke McCown? No, obviously. I understand that the reason Matt Moore was brought in was for a Henne injury, but I don’t care. Moore doesn’t excite me. Garrard is a better quarterback. Garrard knows what it is like to play in the Florida heat. The Dolphins should swallow their pride here and give him some money. If nothing else, it will show the fans that this organization has not completely given up on this season yet.

What do you think? Should they sign Garrard? Delhomme? Stick with Moore? Do something else?

UPDATE: John Clayton reporting that the Dolphins worked out Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle today. My question, why? Sign Garrard, please.

If we want to make any noise this year…then we sign Garrard.
If we want to suck for luck, we stay as is, with Moore

  • DavidValencia

Sign him now! I do not want to suck for luck. We need more than just a qb. With this o-line luck will be killed. Need to have pride and win some games!

  • miamijimmy

@dolphinsbuzztap no, it could possibly ruin our suck for luck campaign. Lol http://t.co/hjBmk7Sq

  • mgoodwin04

@DavidValencia I agree. The suck for luck thing is BS and I want to win. But I’m not sure about Garrard. When a guy like that gets cut from the team that he’s spent his whole career with right before the season, something’s fishy. Del Rio’s not great but he’s not an idiot. Look at the McNabb deal. Reid pulling a fast one again. Sometimes guys have nothing left in the tank.

Sad to say, but Moore might be our best starter, and Garrard’s not worth signing as a backup.

@mgoodwin04@DavidValencia I’m not sure you can say he is not worth signing as a backup. At worst, he is probably equal to what Moore is right now. At his best, he led the Jags to a playoff appearance. What exactly do the Dolphins have to lose right now?

  • jagdolphin

Sign him now. He is a great guy and will win now. Who knows how he might do with Bradon Marshall, a receiver who can actually catch!!

It would be foolish to sign Garrard for the balance of the season..Now that they signed Saga

Rosenfield as a backup for Moore, what would they gain..The season is 1/3 over, and it looks like we are going to have another bad season..Lets wait until the next draft..there are some great player available..Luck, the kid from Boise..we should be able to get one of those..The big question is..who is going to be the coach..? I am 83 years old..come on fellows get this program turned around I don’t know how much time I have left…
