I’m curious as to your opinion here. According to a bunch of sources, the Dolphins have been in talks to bring in a veteran quarterback, now that it’s a distinct possibility that Chad Henne will miss a good amount of time.
Last I read, they were in talks with both David Garrard and Jake Delhomme, but both deals stalled because the Dolphins would not guarantee any portion of their salaries, and neither quarterback wants to be signed for just a week or two.
Garrard especially, does not want to just be on a roster; he wants to play. I believe that between these two, you sign Garrard and it isn’t close. He has passed for over 16,000 yards in his career, and in both 2008 and 2009, he was right at the 3,500 mark. He can run, which is important behind this line which right now, my grandmother could get around. If we sign Delhomme, he will be a sitting duck back there, and doesn’t have the decision making skills to get the ball out fast enough. If this was 2004, I’d go with Delhomme. In 2011, it’s Garrard, plain and simple.
I don’t really understand why Garrard was cut in the first place. Were the Jaguars really better off for a few weeks with Luke McCown? No, obviously. I understand that the reason Matt Moore was brought in was for a Henne injury, but I don’t care. Moore doesn’t excite me. Garrard is a better quarterback. Garrard knows what it is like to play in the Florida heat. The Dolphins should swallow their pride here and give him some money. If nothing else, it will show the fans that this organization has not completely given up on this season yet.
What do you think? Should they sign Garrard? Delhomme? Stick with Moore? Do something else?
UPDATE: John Clayton reporting that the Dolphins worked out Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle today. My question, why? Sign Garrard, please.
