The Miami Dolphins have not made a move with the trade deadline only an hour away. The Cincinnati Bengals however have made a move and it’s a big one. The Bengals have moved “retired” QB Carson Palmer to the Oakland Raiders for two first round draft picks. In other words, they ripped off the west coast AFC counterpart. This is a ridiculous move by QB starved team. The Raiders lost Jason Campbell for possibly six weeks or more with a collarbone injury. But 2 first rounders?
UPDATE: The deal is for a first rounder in 2012 and a 2nd in 2013 unless the Raiders make it to the AFC Championship game this year or next then the 2nd escalates into a first.
The move is reminiscent of Al Davis’ over spending throughout the last few years so maybe he still does live on in Oakland.
In other news, former Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown is now a Detroit Lion after the Eagles traded him for fellow RB Jerome Harrison and 2013 undisclosed pick. The move will almost assuredly put Brown back into playing time as Jahvid Best was injured with yet another concussion in Sunday’s game against the 49’ers. Brown suddenly has some value to a team that is on the rise.
A sign of bad teams getting worse is the Jacksonville Jaguars who have re-signed Mike Sims-Walker who was released yesterday by the St. Louis Rams after their trade for Denver WR Brandon Lloyd. Sims-Walker has been a non-factor on a bad offensive unit in St. Louis.
In Minnesota where the Vikings traded for highly unproductive QB Donovan McNabb, the staff have finally given up on the former talented QB and now prima-donna in favor of rookie first pick Christian Ponder, a rumored target at 16 of the Miami Dolphins had he fallen.
We will keep you posted if anything materializes out of Miami. Truth be told, the Dolphins should be trying to unload payroll about right now and not bringing anyone in.
