Vontae’ Davis In Miami For Disciplinary Reasons?

The Miami Dolphins can’t afford to lose too much of their already weak defense and today they will be without DE Phillip Merling and starting CB Vontae’ Davis.  Merling who has been benched due to discipline problems early in the season is making his second trip into the Tony Sparano doghouse.  Vontae’ Davis on the other hand has missed four games due to an injured hamstring but apparently a fracas involving Brandon Marshall may have led to Davis’ benching this week.  The team is calling it a “non-injury” situation.

According to multiple reports Davis and Marshall got into an altercation after Marshall was trash talking and apparently “crossed the line” according to Davis.  Some Dolphins players however have said, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com, that Davis is lying and that it’s not the reason he is being kept out of the Kansas City game.  It does show that the close little family that has is still holding together is not exactly as rosy behind the scenes as we are to believe.

The Dolphins can ill afford to be without their starting CB in Davis but won’t have a choice now.  Davis told close friends that he believed the benching was for the altercation with Marshall which had players restraining Davis.  However another member of the Dolphins denied that and said he knew “exactly why” he was being benched.  This all from Jeff Darlington.

My question is this, what kind of trash talking from Marshall could rile up Davis so much?  Did he sleep with his wife or something?  I mean personally, I can think of quite a few comebacks to Brandon Marshall that could “stab” a little deeper.

While Merling and Davis will watch from Miami with the rest of us, they will get their first look at newly signed from the practice squad Julius Pruitt who has been a mainstay on the PS for his first three NFL seasons.  Now that’s dedication.  It’s very likely given the Miami Dolphins current WR situation that Pruitt will see some action today in KC.

    This once PROUD franchise has become a joke, and becoming harder and harder to continue to be a fan of this franchise. It is not the franchise I grew up watching and is completely disgusting anymore.

    Wide receiver situation?? There is no issues with receivers except for marshals dropped passes in the redzone. The real issues are on the offensive and defensive lines.

    @Onole1 Agree, the wheels are coming off. I have been a fan forever and NEVER remember so much dissension and “running of the mouth” than what I have seen and read this year. If that doesn’t beg for a new HC, I don’t know WTH does.

    As for Merling, why is he still here? Can you say BUST? Trade him ASAP for a McDonalds Happy Meal and be damn glad you got it! Marshall needs to be traded as well. He is a cancer, and an expensive cancer at that. I abhorred that trade from day 1. As for Davis, it is a blessing he is sitting. Maybe he will get a chance to finally heal.

    @Lespaul Marlon Moore on IR. Roberto Wallace on IR. Clyde Gates’ groin injury. Marshall’s dropped passes. Bess’ inability to get open. Those situations…:)

  • Lespaul

    Ah, I had no idea we were so depleted on receivers. Didn’t know Gates was hurt, so explains why we haven’t seen him in action. Bess not getting open? I would think its a matter of routes and time in the pocket. He has been open, but when your QB has half a heartbeat to scan the field and throw the ball, then yes he is probably still covered.

    Brian nice “stick” on Marshall so I’m going way out on a limb and say you won’t get an interview or an appearance on your radio show from Marshall anytime in the near future.

    @RandyCarlson Lol…not likely
