The Miami Dolphins have reportedly signed kicker Shayne Graham as an insurance policy for Dan Carpenter. Carp injured his groin in practice on Thursday and the team worked out three kickers later in the day. The Dolphins have not needed the strong accurate leg of Carpenter the last two weeks as the team has been able to turn redzone trips into six points instead of the fist pumping three fans have grown accustomed to.
Graham is in his 11th NFL season that started in 2001 with the Buffalo Bills. Ironic. He spent most of those seasons as the kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals with short trips to the New England Patriots and New York Giants. He also has kicked for the Carolina Panthers. He has also been released by the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys and serves now as a fill in type kicker.
There is no official team word on the signing or on Carpenters official status for Sunday.
UPDATE: The Dolphins have released DB Jonathan Wade to make room for Graham.
