Well, it has finally happened. We all knew it would, we just weren’t sure when. But Tony Sparano has been fired. He will be replaced by the assistant head coach and secondary coach Todd Bowles.
The timing is interesting, after the Chiefs let go of Todd Haley earlier in the day and Sparano conducted his usual Monday press conference this afternoon. The Dolphins had won four of five before losing to the Eagles 26-10 on Sunday.
Sparano was 29-33 in 3+ seasons with the Dolphins. He started off strong after turning around a team that was 1-15, but things never got going after that. Between constant issues on the offensive line and never having a steady quarterback, things were trending the wrong way for the Dolphins, and a change was needed.
Todd Bowles will take over for the rest of the season. Bowles had been mentioned in the pool of several head coaching positions in the last few years, namely the Dallas Cowboys, but this will be his first head coaching gig.
Stick with us as more information comes in. And keep an eye out for more articles about the Sparano firing. I’m sure many people will have opinions on who the next Dolphins head coach will be.
