Ross Tells Fisher No?

The wide speculated rumor this afternoon is that Stephen Ross refused to give power, full, partial, or otherwise to Jeff Fisher and Fisher finally said, forget it.  With the Rams he get’s it all.  His own GM, his own decisions, and the 2nd pick in the draft.

The Dolphins get the status quo.  Jeff Ireland and a continuing coaching search.  Along with that, they get a lot of pissed off fans who think that once again they screwed this up.  Again?  Oh, yes, again.  Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, Jeff Fisher, Bill Cowher.  All the big names said “No Thanks!”

O.k. let’s get this straight.  Cowher and Gruden did not want to coach and have accepted ZERO interviews.  Hardly spurned so they don’t count.  You can make the arguement with Harbaugh and 49′ers but it was rumored early prior to last season that Harbaugh didn’t want to leave the west coast.  Now Fisher, o.k. he chose a better environment for him.  Total control and no questions.

Point is this.  This was a no-win situation for Stephen Ross.  If he doesn’t go after Fisher he is an idiot.  If he doesn’t land Jeff Fisher he is an idiot.  If he over pays Jeff Fisher and gives him control, he is an idiot.  In my opinion, Ross did enough.  He courted, he wined, he dined, and he got left with the bar tab without so much as a kiss good night.  It happens.

Time to move on and get over this.  The sky didn’t fall, we are still breathing, and that’s that.  Funny as well is how many fans didn’t want Fisher to begin with.  Now they get the chance to get the guy they did.

Am I the only one who thinks we came out ahead with this decision.

    Good luck to the rams.

Nope…I’m relieved as well. Not to say I will like the eventual HC more than Fisher, but not a fan for what he has done in 17 years.

I read somewhere that he makes bad personnel decisions. If that is the case he could have 10 picks in the upcoming draft and it won’t make a difference.

He wanted Matt Leinhart over Vince Young. it was a push…LOL. He did get rid of Starks though.

Welcome to the cellar phin fans. When you lose out on a big name because of control problems, no worthy coach will even answer a phone call from the fool Ross.

    • Brian Miller

cellar? Where have you been for the last two years? LOL

Big name coaches don’t always succeed. Saban, Parcells, Johnson, Wannstedt, Turner, the list goes on.

There are a lot of names on the coaching list that have turned down Ross…clearly he needs to change his strategy. Clearly, this has become a team no one want to have anything to do with. It seems most likely to do with Ross/ Ireland than the players or current staff.

Good for Ross. I’m glad he held his ground if the report is right. As I’ve mentioned previously I was hoping Fisher would go to St. Louis. Here’s to hoping for Coach Chud.

@Lespaul Really? I count one maybe two. You can’t blame Ross for Harbaugh not wanting to leave the west coast. And did anyone really want Fisher to have full control over the Fins anyway?
