The Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s have hired a new head coach. The last team to be without a man in charge has decided to hire Rutgers’ Greg Schiano as the teams next HC. The hiring leaves the door wide open for Miami Dolphins new head coach to hire his mentor Mike Sherman as the teams next offensive coordinator. The move is expected to be quick.
Sherman interviewed twice with the Buc’s and finished his second interview this week. He is currently speaking with Philbin today regarding the OC position currently held by Brian DaBoll. DaBoll is expected to be released from his contract any day. For the Dolphins, this could be the boost the teams anemic offense needed. Sherman took the Packers to two divisional crowns and four playoff appearances. He was also the person to bring Philbin to the NFL.
If the hiring of Sherman occurs as expected, the Dolphins can expect a more energized offense behind a man who can be very creative and knows how the game works from the top down. Are you feeling excited yet? You should be. Sherman’s experience with QB’s as well as offensive lines (two of the Dolphins primary needs) will go far in the development of the teams skill positions.
For the Dolphins and specifically Philbin, his first two coaching hires could be the trusted adviser’s that he needs. His mentor on offense and another Mike Sherman product in Kevin Coyle if he does in fact leave the Bengals. The door is open, I doubt that the Dolphins will close it without a deal.
