The next ten days may be very interesting for Dolphans. On Monday March 5th at 4:00 pm, the window for designating NFL franchise players closes. This means it will be known whether the Green Bay Packers will designate Matt Flynn as a franchise player, thus upping the stakes on the Dolphins acquiring Flynn to be their next QB. On Thursday March 8th, the Colts must decided whether to pay a $28 million dollar roster bonus to Peyton Manning. This means it will be known whether Peyton Manning will become a free agent — if a free agent, the Dolphins could begin negotiations with Manning immediately. And, on Tuesday March 13th at 4:00 pm, the NFL free agency period opens. This means the Dolphins could begin negotiations with Matt Flynn, if they do not get Manning.
So, the next 10 days will carry great significance as to who may be QB of the Dolphins in 2012. But, if the Dolphins do not acquire Manning or Flynn for some reason, then their QB situation may not be resolved until the 2012 NFL Draft is conducted from April 26th to April 28th. However, there could be a Coming Nightmare Scenario for the Dolphins at QB! Bottomline … the nightmare could be the status quo!
Look, I am normally an optimist at heart. But, the high demand for a QB in the NFL (Dolphins, Colts, Browns, Redskins, Seahawks and more) seems to be significantly greater than the quality supply (Manning, Flynn, Luck, Griffin III, and Tannehill) which could mean that two months from now the Dolphins could be left standing without a good looking date for the prom, so to speak.
