The Miami Dolphins have one less option on the table to fulfill their QB needs. Late last night the Washington Redskins finalized a deal with St. Louis Rams for the 2nd overall pick in the draft. The Redskins will now select Baylor QB Robert Griffin, III. Miami is left with a pursuit of Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn, and whomever remains of the QB class.
To get the number 2, the Redskins paid a hefty price.
For those of you wanting the talent that is RGIII, Miami would have had to give up more. The Skins will send their 6th overall pick to the Rams along with their second rounder. They will also send their 2013 and 2014 first round picks to the Rams as well. There is reportedly another pick or two that may be included as well but in the mid-rounds. For Washington, a team that has far more holes than QB, the move will leave them without high-end draft picks to fill them for the next two years.
The Skins are banking on RGIII coming into the NFL and doing for their offense what Cam Newton was able to do in Carolina last year. If on the very slim chance that the Colts decide they want RGIII, the Redskins will take Andrew Luck. Either way, they get a QB.
For the Dolphins, the move leaves little wiggle room in their search for a QB and I will discuss this a bit more in my next article.
