Breaking news via NFL Network on a very busy trade day is that the Fins have just traded Marshall to the Bears for a pair of 3rd round draft picks. For the Bears, this means the search for a wide receiver compliment such as Vincent
Jackson has now been attained and of course there is already a relationship between Bears veteran QB Jay Cutler and Marshall from having both been in Denver. The reunion will definitely help the Bears struggling passing game but they will still need to solidify and improve their offensive line.
For the Dolphins this means they will have the opportunity to pursue 2 additional players in the draft, depending on where the 2 picks fall and so forth. But clearly, the Fins felt that this was an opportunity to reduce some salary and potentially gain through wise draft choices. In my view, this shows a very confident Jeff Ireland and Joe Philbin & Co.
There is some speculation that yesterday’s discussion of 5 hours with Peyton Manning may also have played a part in the decision although in my opinion this is doubtful because trades like this do not happen in just a few minutes and undoubtedly the owner, Stephen Ross, has given his blessing to the move.
More on the story as it continues to develop.
