There are rumors that the Minnesota Vikings are being contacted by, at least, one potential suitor for the third pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The popular assumption is that the Miami Dolphins are attempting to leapfrog the Cleveland Browns, to draft Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Did Mike Sherman tell the Miami Dolphins’ front office that Tannehill is going to be a star in the league?
According to the Draft Value chart, this move is worth 800 points. The Dolphins would have to give up three 2012 picks to cover the points, their second-rounder, one third, and their fourth. If they opt to offer a future pick, the price will likely be their present second and a future second. Is Tannehill worth it?
He is 6’4″, 222, so he meets the size criterion. Scouts say he moves well, has NFL arm strength, and is very accurate. In a west-coast system, accuracy is critical. He has the physical tools and Sherman has insight to his mental game. The Dolphins may be salivating.
With that said, it may not be the Dolphins that are reaching out to the Vikes and Tannehill might not be the prize desired. This can also be a Dolphin smokescreen.
No matter what, I hope things go as planned for our Phins.
