A couple of months ago, I wrote an article detailing the resume of Matt Flynn. I suggested that Flynn was a bit overrated and would not be acquired by the Dolphins, unless they had inside knowledge of his skills which Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin possessed based on coaching Flynn at Green Bay. In the end, the Dolphins chose not to spend big dollars on Flynn — they concluded the probability was not high that he’d become a franchise QB.
Next up, in the Dolphins’ QB search saga, is Ryan Tannehill. And, it seems here we go again! It is somewhat a Flynn-like situation all over again.
Tannehill is a 23 year old newly graduate of Texas A&M University. He is 6’4″ and 222 pounds with a 3/4 side arm delivery who will likely be the third QB selected in the 2012 NFL Draft (after Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III). Several “draft experts” think that Tannehill could actually be selected 4th overall (where Cleveland currently owns this pick). The big question is … Will the Dolphins Select Ryan Tannehill? Will Tannehill fall to the Dolphins’ 8th pick? Or, will the Dolphins trade up to select Tannehill? Or, will the Dolphins pass on Tannehill all together?
I do not think that the Dolphins will select Tannehill with the 8th pick or trade up to select him earlier in the 2012 NFL Draft. I believe that analysis shows that Tannehill is bit overrated. However, like with Flynn, I qualify this conclusion based on the inside knowledge of Tannehill’s skills which Dolphins Offensive Coordinator Mike Sherman possesses based on 2011 experience as Tannehill’s college head coach.
So, why do I believe the Dolphins will pass on Ryan Tannehill?
