Sunday night two contradicting reports surfaced about Stephen Ross and his infatuation with Ryan Tannehill. First, ProFootballTalk published this article which stated “a league source tells PFT that the man pushing hardest for Tannehill is owner Stephen Ross.”
Later in the night, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald wrote this article which said “I have just had an e-mail exhcange with a very, very, very highly placed source within the Dolphins organization. In very colorful language the source tells me the profootballtalk.com report is not true.”
So which of these reports are true? Are the Dolphins just trying to cover up the report to hide their actual intentions of drafting Tannehill? Who knows. It’s hard to believe any reports that are going to come within the next week.
Either way, I’m sure the Dolphins can’t be too happy with the report. The Dolphins like to keep everything in secret and any report about them, true or not, can hurt what they are trying to do.
If Stephen Ross is in fact pushing for Tannehill, I hope Jeff Ireland doesn’t draft him just for that reason.
UPDATE: 4/23 – 6:28 P.M.
In an interview early monday with Mike Florio on PFT Live, Jeff Ireland made it clear that Ross is “heavily involved”, but supports all decisions the front office makes.
Later in the day, Ross himself sent an email to Pro Football Talk pretty much saying it’s up to Jeff Ireland with the help of the coaching staff.
It seems like the Dolphins are trying a little too hard in falsifying the report that Ross wants Tannehill. I guess we will find out on Thursday.
