Dolphins' Ireland Attempted To Move Back Into Round 1

The Miami Dolphins finished last nights round 1 of the NFL Draft with only Ryan Tannehill.  It almost didn’t end that way.  According to information becoming available today and reported VIA Twitter by Omar Kelly, Jeff Ireland vigorously attempted to get back into round one in what would have likely been an attempt to add an edge rushing defender.

Who that player would have been and who the team/s were that he may have spoken with is unknown but Ireland still has his second round selection today and two 3rd’s.  If indeed the speculation is true that he was targeting an edge rusher, it’s safe to assume that the target in round 2 will be just that.  Courtney Upshaw has fallen in part due to questions regarding his ability to learn at this level (mental not physical).  Vinny Curry is still on the board and is rated one of the best pass rushers in this years draft as well.

With two 3rd rounders at his disposal, do not be surprised if the team tries to add another 2nd round pick or if the pass rushers are gone that Ireland doesn’t trade back in round 2 and add another third as well.

Tonights 2nd and 3rd rounds start at 7:00 eastern.  James and I will also be talking about the draft at 6:00 on our show as well.
