UPDATE:  According to police investigators, the incident occurred after an argument over the receipt of a box of condoms.  Seriously, this stuff just can’t be made up.  The Miami Dolphins have issued a statement and Johnson is saying that they only bumped heads while they were arguing and that he didn’t intentionally head butt her.  Due to the timing of the arrest, his bail hearing may not be heard until Monday at the latest.

"“We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the relevant information,” team spokesman Harvey Greene told PFT via email."

A report is just surfacing via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Dolphins Wide Receiver Chad Johnson was arrested on domestic violence charges. As of right now there are very few details available, but the arrest happened Saturday night according to the Davie Police Department.

Update 9:55 pm: Sun-sentinel reports that a source has informed them the incident took place inside a vehicle and that Johnson head-butted wife, Evelyn Lozada, whom he married on July 4th. When police arrived Lozada had lacerations on her head and Johnson was arrested.

Update 10:10 pm: NFL.com is reporting that, according to police, the argument occurred when Johnson found a receipt for a box of condoms in Lozada’s car. When they asked Johnson what had happened he told them they ” bumped heads”. NFL.com also reports that Johnson will be detained until a bail hearing can be set, which could possibly not be until Monday.

Update 11:00 pm: The latest news clarifies certain aspects of the story thus far. Davie Police Captain Dale Engle said that the Johnsons went for dinner and then Lozada and Johnson fought following HER discovery of a receipt for condoms. He continued saying “By the time they get home here in Davie it’s pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead.”

The Miami Dolphins issued a statement acknowledging their awarness of the incident and stating that they are “gathering all relevant information” at this time.

Izzy Gould has posted on twitter that he has been informed that Johnson will be bonded from prison by Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m..

This is Johnson’s first arrest since another domestic incident that occurred while he was in college.

Johnson is coming off a game Friday where he dropped the only pass thrown to him and was other wise irrelevant.

Be sure to continue to check back here, we will update the story as more details emerge.
