If the Dolphins were hoping to use the new NFL injured reserve rules and stash QB David Garrard on the IR list for six weeks, that went out the window this morning. Garrard, out for the last three weeks returned to practice and according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post looked really good in agility drills. Volin said that Garrard was not wearing a brace on his knee.
The Dolphins have four QB’s on their roster and national media thoughts continue to say that the Dolphins will move Matt Moore before the start of the season. The Dolphins maintain they are will to go into the season with 4 QB’s on the roster although Pat Devlin could see a second stint on the practice squad if the team opts to waive him sans a Moore trade.
Garrard will obviously not start and it’s a pretty well concluded subject that Ryan Tannehill for better or worse will lead the team all year. Garrard however is seasoned veteran who will help Tannehill adjust to the NFL game week to week, help him break down game film, and learn to play at a higher level.
Garrard is due his full salary if he is on the roster for week 1 so the Dolphins could still part ways with the veteran out of Jacksonville although it’s doubtful.
