According to multiple sources, the Miami Dolphins have released QB David Garrard. Garrard was the number one depth chart QB only a short four weeks ago but was pulled out of the lineup a day before the first pre-season game after injuring his knee at home in his pool. According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post VIA Twitter, he did not receive and injury settlement.
The Dolphins will likely head into the season with Matt Moore and Pat Devlin as the back-ups behind Tannehill. Recently, as early as this morning, it was popular belief among the mainstream media that Matt Moore would be traded by weeks end. That is now unlikely although the team may be able to move him in season if an acceptable offer comes across the table of Jeff Ireland.
Garrard is free to sign with anyone immediately as he is not hindered by clearing waivers. It is also a possibility that the Dolphins could bring Garrard back at a lesser salary if he fails to land elsewhere.
