Dolphins’ Ireland Fan Altercation Another Blemish

When you are one of the most despised men in a city, right or wrong, the last thing you want to do is give your detractors yet another reason to throw verbal hatred your way.  Unfortunately for the Miami Dolphins Jeff Ireland a verbal altercation on Sunday with a fan will only likely serve to draw more ire from a fan base already calling for his head.

The incident occurred during halftime as Ireland was making his way back to his booth for the second half.  Ireland is actually an approachable individual (unless you are chasing him down the tunnel for an interview by say someone who actually broke this story) so when he spoke to several fans along his way, the last one, in his words, took him by surprise.

“It did happen at halftime and I was going back to my booth after seeing my wife and I did talk to several fans that were very nice,” Ireland said. “But as I’m walking back this guy introduces himself to me and says I should fire myself.

“It caught me off guard.  I just turned and walked away but I did say the word.  I regret I used the word I used.  I thought I was using it under my breath.  I guess I kind of said it loud enough that he could hear it.  I literally said it under my breath.  At the time I felt I handled the situation pretty good.  Probably muttered it a little too loud.  I regret that I said anything.”

Not surprisingly here, but I agree with Ireland completely.  The guy is an “asshole”.

Don’t you have anything else to write about. What a waste of space. Who cares. The fan deserved it.

Hey wait a minute…I took the side of Ireland here. Do you REALLY think that I want to write about this crap? It’s like sending an invitation to the masses to come on here and complain about Ireland some more. I have to put it up…it’s freaking news and when it starts hitting all the forums I’m the one who “picks and chooses” what I post.

Asshole or not, Ireland is representing a team that many have given hope on solely because of him. You don’t call fans of your team an ass hole. Fireland 2012

I gotta say, who cares? A) he admits it happened B) to call muttering a-hole under your breath a verbal altercation is like saying Mark Sanchez is an elite QB. The fan was obviously trying to stir up trouble and unfortunately was able to. Now instead of barely hearing anything from the media this week (that is what happens when the Dolphins start to not look like a laughing stalk, right?) we have to hear about this for the rest of the week. God I hope we destroy the Jest Sunday so we can all sit around and make fun of them for a week.

Maybe he needs a speech from Joe Philbin… (Just kidding.) haha.

    Sean is an a– hole.

for him. Ireland was right about that fan. Approaching him and saying
that to him personally is rude and inconsiderate. If that is the worst,
Ireland did, then fan should consider himself lucky. Some people with
less self-control would have decked him. I still feel like Ireland is
doing a good job in the last 2 or 3 years. The fan doesn’t know himself
    from his elbow.

Perhaps Ireland should have waited until the end of the game and said,
“How do you like me now Richard?” To which the fan would have replied,
“I still hate you and my name isn’t Richard.” Jeff would then state,
“I’m sorry. I thought you were named Richard because you are such a…”.

That guy had every right to tell Ireland he should fire himself. One should be critical of incompetence. Especially as a paying fan.

Are you people kidding me? “The guy deserved it”? Get the fuck outta here! This guy is suppose to represent the organization with class and dignity. Walk away and call him whatever you want behind closed doors. Don’t say it where people can hear you. Now this guy’s two claims to fame are calling a fan an asshole and asking a player if his mom was a whore. Not a stellar draft, great FA signings, etc.. but two self inflicted wounds that he could have easily prevented. Jeff Ireland, YOU are the asshole. Fire this clown already.

  • gary grimes

Good for Ireland, that fan was a first class asshole and deserved to be called out. What kind of moron goes up to another man that he doesn’t know and tells him to fire himself? He’s lucky he didn’t get an ass beating which is what he really deserved.
