Somehow the blocked punt and forced INT sack by Jimmy Wilson were overlooked this week in NFL honors.  The Miami Dolphins’ Cameron Wake and rookie Olivier Vernon however were not.  Cameron Wake received the NFL”s AFC Defensive Player of the Month award while Olivier Vernon received AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Cameron Wake has been a machine throughout the year but in October, he did enough to get noticed.  He has 7.5 sacks on the season and is only 2 behind the lead owned by J.J. Watts of Houston.  More impressive is the number of times he has been held.  Some called, most not.  Regardless, Wake has been a standout thus far from the outside and looks to continue that push through November.

Olivier Vernon who was being pressed hard during training camp by coaches and fans alike, has been getting better on the opposite side of Wake.  This week, he did his talking on special teams.  He recovered a blocked punt (Jimmy Wilson) for a TD and then blocked the NY Jets first field goal attempt this week.  It’s his first NFL honors.
