Miami Dolphins Playing For Tiebreakers

At the season’s midpoint, the Miami Dolphins have performed much better than most people and pundits ever expected. Before the season even began this team was billed as one in disarray and devoid of enough talent to compete week in and week out.

As training camp began and the attention from HBO’s Hard Knocks brought on negative vibes, the coaching staff stayed true to thier plan and got their team ready for the season.

After a winless preseason and forgettable season opener, the Dolphins opened everyone’s eyes to what they’re capable of with a blowout win over the Oakland Raiders. After 2 heartbreaking overtime losses; this team, which could have bowed their heads, instead held them up high and swam through troubled waters on their way to a 3 game winning streak.

Now, after losing to the Indianapolis Colts and losing pace with the AFC East‘s Division leader New England Patriots, the Dolphins find themselves at a bit of a crossroads with 2 directions they can go.

One direction is towards a playoff berth and the other being one step closer to the draft.

Thus, making Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans in Miami, a game of more importance than some may think.

Lose on Sunday and the Dolphins will find themselves below .500, in a constant battle to get back there and with one more loss against an AFC team, further hurting their chances at the playoffs due to tiebreakers.

Win on Sunday and the Dolphins will be over .500 with their eyes set on a winning record and the owner of 2 tiebreakers over the Pittsburgh Steelers because of their losses to the Raiders and Titans earlier this year.

After losing to the Colts and no head to head matchup with Pittsburgh, these tiebreakers with the Steelers makes Sunday’s matchup pivotal in the Wild Card race whether they realize it or not.

Sunday’s outcome will determine what course the Dolphins take from there, so if it’s to be playoff bound like they say it is, then it’s time for them to solidify their team’s identity and finish games the way they’re capable of, NOW.
