The Miami Dolphins won on Sunday. Monday morning Jonathon Amaya was still celebrating. A little too much. Amaya was arrested on assault charges following a late night of clubbing in Miami. The 3rd year safety who was traded to New Orleans as part of the Reggie Bush deal was resigned by the Dolphins this season after being cut by the Saints. He may be facing the unemployment line again.
The report says that Amaya became aggressive towards a taxi cab driver around 4:30 in the morning after hailing the cab to take him from a local club. Kudos to Amaya for calling the cab however the cab driver is claiming that Amaya reached from the backseat and attempted to choke the driver of the cab. The cab driver returned Amaya to the pick up spot and two officers according to the report heard the cab drivers yelling that Amaya was “going to kill me”.
The incident is the first off-field issue for Amaya but his arrest and the circumstances of his arrest may lead Commissioner Roger Goodell to levee a suspension of some kind in addition to a fine. The question is will the Dolphins keep him on the roster? As seen during the training camp coverage of Hard Knocks, WR Chad Johnson was cut almost immediately for an altercation with his wife that had turned violent.
Since re-joining the Dolphins, Amaya has contributed six tackles.
