Another Lineman In Round 1? This Mock Says Yes

The NFL season is not over but after yesterday’s loss to the San Francisco 49’ers, the Dolphins are now playing for pride, next year, and auditioning for other NFL teams as well as Joe Philbin.  To say this year has been bumpy is an understatement but take notice of how disappointed you are in how the season ended.  It shows you had higher expectations after opening the season with extremely low expectations.  That’s a slim sign of progress but progress nonetheless.

Now Miami Dolphins fans can relax and watch players at each position play a little more closer.  They can start thinking of how the Dolphins will spend some 55+ million in free agency and start talking about the NFL Draft at the end of April.  Which brings us to yet  another FanSided Mock Draft.

Currently the Dolphins are slotted in the 13th pick which could slide up or down depending on how the season progresses.  This week, the mock draft has the Dolphins taking another offensive lineman.  A guard by the name of Jonathan Cooper of NC.  I’m not going to laugh too loud given the past drafts that saw Miami take a lineman in the draft.  Long at 1 overall and Pouncey at 16, but the Dolphins have far more issues than a lineman.

This year the Dolphins will likely look closely at the defensive side of the ball for help.  An edge rusher, a corner, or big threat middle linebacker.  If they opt to go offense, you can bet it will be a WR.  While you can’t say never, a guard simply will not turn this team around, unless somehow they fill all their holes in free agency.  Which I doubt so I wouldn’t bet on a lineman in round 1 if  I were you.

Jeff Ireland said he needs to find “core” players this year.  Those were listed as Number 1 WR, Pass rush specialist, outside and inside LB, and corner.  As well as QB which he addressed this past year.  Guard wasn’t on that list.
