The Miami Dolphins Transformation into an exciting football team

At the beginning of the year all the “experts” we’re saying the Dolphins had no chance to win even four football games, they did more then just prove them wrong. The Dolphins are growing, and players are improving just the way Jeff Ireland has hoped.

Reshad Jones is starting to look like a hard hitting football player, becoming a play maker, something the Fins have been looking for all season. Over the last 4 games he has 2 interceptions and two fumble recoveries, three of those coming in the Bills game last Sunday.

Mike Pouncey, who maybe the biggest probowl snub in my opinion, has been playing like a first round pick all season. It doesn’t happen too much where you see highlights of a center it for him it has been a different story. He has been playing outstanding football as the leader of the Dolphins o-line.

Lamar Miller has also been a very good surprise for the Dolphins. He has not been able to play in to many games this season but he is making the most of his chances while Daniel Thomas remains on IR for the rest of the season. He has averaged 5.2 yards over 46 carris this season. While watching the game Sunday I started to think, “what if the Dolphins resigned Bush?.” Think about it, if the Dolphins tried to trade Thomas mid way through next year to a team in need of a running back. They would be able to get about a 3rd round pick for Thomas. Having Miller and Bush as a 1-2 combo would make the Dolphins have one of the most explosive runningback duos in the NFL. (Dolphins have made it clear they want Bush back, for the right price of corse.)

There is one person who is more excited about this Dolphins team then any fan, Jeff Ireland. He has 5 of the first 100 picks in next years draft. He also has a large amount of cap space to sign a few free agents to make the Dolphins even better. He is the key for the Fins to be competitive next season.

Thomas has shown flashes, but he has also had concussions. I would guess his value would be in the rd 5 to 7 range. As for Bush/Miller, if Miami would flex Bush out more like in the last game with miller at HB, i would agree it would be hard to defend. The question is, would miami make that a “normal” part of the game plan when Bess is off IR??

I also feel that the brilliance of Thomas is dimmed by the frequency of his being sidelined because of injuries. This may speak volumes as far as his commitment to perform, and I for one appreciate it… however, there’s life after football for him and for the team, well, they can’t very well rely on a player who can’t play in spite of his heroics. I knew R. Jones was the real thing, ever since I saw him play in his rookie year’s pre-season games. Keep Bush but do have a heart to heart with him regarding his behind the line dancing and overly done hessitation moves. Let’s beat New England just because it is New England… remember the snow plow (if you’re young, you probably don’t) and Wes Welker. Let us draft O-line, Corners, and whatever we do, don’t let Binns go anywhere.

We have a lot of upside… I think we have quite a few really good players, and potentially a really good head coach in the making. Resign bush if it’s at the right price, Draft a top WR in the first two rounds, or sign one (FA), Draft the best CB available in the first two rounds, then draft Zach Thomas II (LB), FS/SS, then draft the best player available after that regardless of position. If we draft “need” players with our first four or five picks, we should be pretty good next season. And since we need play makers at almost every position, it shouldn’t be hard to use the “best player available strategy” during the draft, but making sure we address WR and CB one and two respectively.
